The Employee Provident Fund (EPF) has made it mandatory for all employees to link their Aadhaar cards with their EPF accounts. People using EPF accounts must comply with the Aadhaar linking guidelines for the smooth functioning of their account.

The Provident Fund (PF) scheme is a facility given to employees on retirement. Under a Unique Account Number (UAN), the employer and employee jointly contribute to a corpus fund that matures upon the employee's retirement. This blog explains how to link your EPF with Aadhaar.

3 Ways to Link Aadhaar With Your EPF Account

An Aadhaar Card can be linked with an EPF account either offline or online. In the offline method, you need to visit the nearest EPFO office. However, in the online method, you can link your Aadhaar by visiting the EPFO portal or using the Umang app.

1. Linking of Aadhaar With PF Account Using Umang App

The Umang App is a mobile application and an acronym for Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has launched this initiative to make India a digital-first nation. The application can help you link your Aadhaar card with your EPF account.

Here is the step-by-step process on how to link Aadhaar to UAN through the Umang App:

Step 1: Download the Umang app on your mobile. It supports Android, iOS, and Windows operating systems.
Step 2: Set up your account using the MPIN or OTP option after installation.
Step 3: Click "All Services" and select "EPFO."
Step 4: Select "e-KYC" under "EPFO."
Step 5: Choose "Aadhaar Seeding" under "e-KYC services."
Step 6: Enter your Unique Account Number (UAN) and register it with the application.
Step 7: Enter your Aadhaar details.
Step 8: Verify the details by entering OPT sent on your registered mobile number.
Step 9: Your Aadhaar linking procedure is completed.

2. Linking of Aadhaar With PF Account Offline

If you prefer going to the physical office and want to link UAN with Aadhaar, here is the step-by-step procedure:

Step 1: Visit the EPFO office and ask the executive for the "Aadhaar Seeding Application."
Step 2: Fill out the “Aadhaar seeding application” with your Aadhaar details.
Step 3: Self-attest PAN, UAN, and Aadhaar along with the "Aadhaar Seeding Application."
Step 4: These forms can be submitted to common service centres (CSC).
Step 5: After verification, the process of the EPF Aadhaar link will be complete.

How to Know if Your Aadhaar Number is Linked to Your EPF Account?

According to the Employees Provident Fund Organization, the last date for the EPF Aadhaar link was December 31, 2021. Thus, many have already linked their Aadhaar card with their EPF account.

3. Linking of Aadhaar With PF Account Online

Here is the step-by-step procedure for checking whether your Aadhaar card is linked with your EPF account.

Step 1: Visit the official website of the Employees' Provident Fund Organization.
Step 2: Login into your EPF account.
Step 3: The home screen will display your Aadhaar number.
Step 4: Check for the status "verified" against the Aadhaar number.
Step 5: If you see the word "verified," your EPF Aadhaar link is complete. In other cases, visit your nearest EPFO office.
