Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identification number assigned to every citizen of India by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Every Indian citizen is expected to possess this identification document as it contains biometric information unique to each person. An Aadhaar Card has information such as the name, date of birth, address, and contact number mapped to their biometrics.

Many personal information changes may occur to the information saved in the Aadhaar during the lifetime of the individual. It is important to keep your Aadhaar card updated.

Important: Before learning to change or update information in your Aadhaar Card at least one mobile number must be registered with your Aadhaar. 
 

How to Change Mobile Number on Aadhaar card

If you need to change your mobile number for any reason, like loss of mobile phone or change of number etc., follow these steps.

Step 1: Locate the nearest Aadhaar centre by going to the official Aadhaar website, http://uidai.gov.in 
Step 2: Under the ‘My Aadhaar’ section select the “Locate an Enrolment Center’’ option. Search a centre by choosing your state, pin code, locality name, city, and district.
Step 3: At the Aadhaar centre fill in your mobile number in the Aadhaar form.
Step 4: Submit the form to the Aadhaar Officer and pay the necessary fees.
Step 5: The requested changes will be updated in the Aadhaar database within 90 days.
Step 6: You can check the status of the Aadhaar update progress using the Update Request Number mentioned in the acknowledgment slip.
 

Steps to add or update mobile number in Aadhaar Card

The first step towards creating your Aadhaar Card is to link your mobile number with the unique Aadhaar number. This is mandatory since it becomes the means for all communication for your Aadhaar Card including receiving sensitive information like OTP authentication.

Step 1: Locate the nearest Aadhaar centre by going to the official Aadhaar website, http://uidai.gov.in. 
Step 2: Under the ‘My Aadhaar’ section select the “Locate an Enrolment Center’’ option. Search a centre by choosing your state, pin code, locality name, city, and district.
Step 3: At the Aadhaar centre fill out the Aadhaar Update/Correction form.
Step 4: Submit the form to the Aadhaar officer and pay the required fees.
Step 5: At this stage, the Aadhaar officer will save your biometrics (fingerprints) as authentication.
Step 6: The requested changes will be updated in the Aadhaar database within 90 days.
Step 7: The status of the update can be checked using the Update Request Number mentioned in the acknowledgement slip.

Kindly note: You cannot change, add or update your mobile number online.
