Nifty 50 started higher on the back of strong global signals. Watch out for positive breakout stocks on Wednesday in this post.
Nifty 50 index began higher on Wednesday at 17,166.45, up from its previous closing of 17,043.3. This was due to strong global signals. On Tuesday, leading Wall Street indices finished significantly higher as investors expect financial-sector hardship to remain confined, freeing the US Fed to focus on addressing inflation.
Global Markets
In overnight trade, Nasdaq Composite rose 2.14%, Dow Jones Industrial Average soared 1.06%, and S&P 500 shot up 1.65%. At the time of writing, their respective futures were trading in the green. Asian market indices were trading higher on Wednesday, following the overnight Wall Street activity, with South Korea's KOSPI and Hong Kong's Hang Seng index taking the lead.
Domestic Markets
Nifty 50 was trading at 17,143.85 at 9:55 a.m., up 100.55 points or 0.59%. Frontline indices, on the other hand, underperformed broader market indices. Nifty Mid-Cap 100 index gained 0.6% and Nifty Small-Cap 100 index jumped 0.73%.
Market Statistics
The advance-decline ratio on the BSE was positive, with 2121 stocks rising, 749 falling, and 107 staying unchanged. All sectors were trading in the green, with the top performers being the metals, pharma, and banking sectors.
FIIs were net sellers, while DIIs were net purchasers, according to statistics as of March 14. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 3,086.96 crore. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) invested Rs 2,121.94 crore in shares.
