List of top 5 gainers and losers in the midcap and smallcap segment for the week from August 19 to 26, 2022.

This week was marked with volatile sentiments wherein Benchmark Indices S&P BSE Sensex was jittery at 60000 mark and closed for the week (August 19 to 26, 2022) at 58,774.72 which was lower by 1.46% or 871points.

The broader market, however, was marginally stronger during the week with S&P BSE Mid Cap closing up by 0.22% at 25,019.90. The S&P BSE Small-Cap also ended at 28,438.57 higher by 140 points or 0.05%.

The biggest gainer in the mid-cap segment for the week was RBL Bank Ltd. The shares of RBL Bank have delivered a weekly return of 28.09 % from the levels of Rs 99.85 to Rs 127.9. The growth-centric plans of the lender have fueled market exuberance and as a result shares of RBL Bank zoomed on the bourses. The private banker announced on August 22 that its Board of Directors has approved fundraising of up to Rs 3,000 crore through the issuance of debt securities on a private placement basis, to support its business growth.

 The laggards of the midcap segment were Hatsun Agro Product Ltd. The shares of the company fell 8.86 % from Rs 1121.45 to Rs 1022.10. The largest private diary corporate posted its Q1FY23 results on August 22 wherein net revenue stood at Rs 2014.61 crore compared to Rs 1538.78 crore during same period last year which grew up by30.92%. However, PAT declined from Rs 64.93 crore to Rs 51.95 crore on YoY basis degrowing by 19.99% YoY. PAT margin also took a hit of 164 bps from 4.22% to 2.58 bps.

 The top gainer in the smallcap segment was Seamec Ltd. Shares of Seamec rose steeply to 31.87% for the week from the levels of Rs 870 to Rs 1147.3. Seamec is a leading provider of Diving Support Vessel (DSV) based diving services. On August 22, the shares of Seamec were locked in upper circuit of 20 per cent at Rs 1044 leading the gainers in BSE ‘B’ Group in that session.

The losers of smallcap space were led by Nava Ltd. The shares of the company fell from Rs 249.05 to Rs 222.45 registering a loss of 10.68 % in the stock price. Shares of Nava Ltd witnessed heavy selling after the company announced on August 23 that it has discontinued the Conversion of High Carbon Ferro Chrome (HCFC) in its Odisha Works, for TSML (a Tata company) by the end of October 2022. The decision was taken as the company has encountered technical issues in the production of HCFC for TSML, impacting the Plant’s productivity parameters.
