India is reportedly developing 6G services, which could debut by the end of 2030, despite the fact that the 5G rollout has not yet occurred. The country is getting ready to roll out 6G services by the end of this decade, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was speaking at the Smart India Hackathon 2022 Grand Finale.

“Youth can work on new solutions to promote the use of drone technology in the agriculture and health sector. We are preparing to launch 6G by the end of this decade. The government is encouraging Indian solutions in gaming and entertainment. The way the government is investing, all of the youth should take advantage,” PM Modi said while addressing the finale via video conferencing. In his Independence day speech, PM Modi said, “India’s techade is here! With 5G, semiconductor manufacturing & Optical Fibre Cable (OFCs) in villages, we are bringing a revolution through Digital India to the grassroots level.”

5G Rollout likely to launch by October:

In the upcoming months, 5G services will be made available in India. According to Union Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, contrary to earlier reports that claimed 5G could arrive by September 29, the service will most likely launch by October 12 with installations already underway.

Where 5G rollout will take place?

The 5G industry would serve both urban and rural areas of the nation while maintaining reasonable prices. The rollout is anticipated to occur in phases, starting with a subset of 13 cities: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Pune.

Who all will be 5G telecom providers?

According to reports, the country's first 5G service providers are Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel. The government estimates that the rollout of the 5G network will boost India's economy by USD 450 billion.

What are 5G and 6G?

These are the cellular technology generations to come. The names 5G and 6G denote the fifth and sixth generations of cellular technology, respectively. There are currently 3G and 4G telecom networks in India. The upcoming 5G technology is expected to be 10X faster than 4G, with lower latency and greater bandwidth. The current latency of 4G networks is around 50 milliseconds. With 5G, this can be reduced to as little as 1 ms, resulting in a better user experience. In addition, the network will have more bandwidth than its predecessor.

The rollout of 6G can proceed at its own pace. Internet speeds will be faster than 5G thanks to the technology. Barry O'Farrell, the Australian High Commissioner to India, stated earlier this month that Australia and India should collaborate to create an ethical regulatory framework for the 6G technology. Finland has additionally offered to assist India with the preparation and deployment of 5G and 6G networks.
