About IDFC

IDFC Limited, founded in 1997, is a Non Banking Finance Company or NBFC overseen by the Reserve Bank of India. It holds investments in IDFC FIRST Bank and IDFC AMC, with stakes of 36.60% and 99.96% respectively, after IDFC FIRST Bank's QIP issue in April 2021 reduced its holding to 36.60%. Initially, IDFC focused on financing infrastructure projects across various sectors, such as energy and telecommunications, until 2015. In 2014, IDFC received preliminary approval from the RBI to establish a new private sector bank, leading to its transition into an NBFC  Investment Company since 2015. Within the IDFC Group, both IDFC and IDFC FIRST Bank are publicly traded, while other operations are managed through unlisted entities.

The company has invested ₹7386 crore in various financial services, including banking, asset management, investment banking, institutional broking and research, and an infrastructure debt fund. All these investments are managed through IDFC Financial Holding Company Limited. The company is now selling off its non-retail businesses to streamline its operations. Going forward, it aims to diversify its products and capabilities, improve customer engagement, and invest in digital technologies and infrastructure.
